Mother’s day mini session giveaway!

Being a mom is the best job….. It’s also the hardest job ever! I want to reward one special mom out there with a FREE mini session (30 minute session and 10 high resolution edited images on a disc)!

Here are the rules… Nominate any mom, stepmom, or mom figure in your life! It can be a friend, a sister, your mother, grandmother… Any mom you know who goes above and beyond for their children, any mom who seems to have learned to balance being a productive part of society, a parent and a friend, any mom who inspires you to be a better mom and person everyday!

My one year package kids hold a special place in my heart! I have photographed Mason’s newborn, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, and now ONE YEAR milestones! He is the most energetic sweet little boy! As usual I had my running shoes on for Sunday’s session and we had a great time running around pullen park and ending our time together with a gigi’s banana cupcake! Thank you Jackie and Kirk for sharing your sweet boy with me!! It has been a pleasure getting to know you all and hope to see you again soon! You should be so proud of yourselves! Madison turns one!! Raleigh child photographer

I love catching back up with my newborn clients! It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year since I met Madison and she is ONE already!! We met up Friday at Pullen Park to celebrate the occasion!! I couldn’t stop smiling when I was editing these!! How contagious is that smile?? She was so sweet and we had a great time!!

Tips on photographing a baby in a crib

I could photograph sleeping babies all day long. The sweetness, the innocence, the calm…. I jus’t can’t get enough. I wanted to share a few tips on prepping for a sleeping beauty session! This is my very own sleeping princess!

Prepare!! Prepare!! Prepare!!

1. BEFORE: Know your light! Check out your babies nursery on where the light falls through out the day! You want bright even lighting with as much light and little shadows as possible! Unfortunately the light in my nursery is less then ideal! And lucking out on the baby sleeping and the light being right an take some work (or luck!) I opened her blinds and adjusted her curtains to block patches of light from hitting her crib.

2. BEFORE: Set the stage… If you have a bumper on the bed fold back one side in the front so you have a clear view between some of the rails. Remove anything that may distract from the baby like blankets, stuffed animals, pacifiers etc.

3. BEFORE: Stock the room. I run a fan all the time in her room for white noise, but it helps to conceal the camera clicks! I moved anything in her room that may prevent me from easily move to spots! (I used my camera to see the best angles before putting her down). I placed a step stool near her crib to help get a better view. I also left my camera and two lenses ready to go.

While shooting…

Move move move!! I used lots of different angles. Through the crib slats, from above, from the side…

Focus on the details! Tiny toes, ears, belly buttons…. All the sweet parts!

And most important!

Put your camera down and just enjoy the serenity that is a sleeping baby! They are only this little for a blink of an eye! Tear….

These Sweet kids came all the way from Charlotte to see me this morning for their 3rd session with me!! (I love my repeat business! Have I mentioned how lucky I am?!!) A baptism gown made from wedding dress! Personal story.

If you know me personally then you know what a sentimental person I am! Three weeks ago my daughter was baptized and it was such a special day! There were so many things that made it special though! Obviously that she was becoming a child of god and gaining two special god parents but also that she was

Baptized in the same church and font that I was baptized in.

Baptized in the same church and font that her brother Luke was baptized in.

Baptized by Father David who also married my husband and I.

But the one I was REALLY excited about… She wore a baptism gown made from my wedding dress! I had never seen this done before and couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate such an important day in her life by wearing a dress from such an important day in OUR lives!

My friend Carried referred me to an adorable seamstress who works from her home in Cary (Kim Cash! I highly recommend her email me if you need her information) We met twice and I explained as much as I could what I was looking for! I admit I was a little nervous about it but it turned out AMAZING!! I could not be happier! I also had two bows made (a headband for Sloan and a clip for Kate!) and a play purse for the girls! Everything even the buttons and the tags came from my dress! The headband was the tie from the back of the dress! I loved it and it is certainly better then having it cleaned and letting it rot in my closet! How many moms in this decade can say they have seen their daughter in their wedding dress?!! I can!! I hope it becomes a family dress for all the baby girls in our family!

It’s 70+ degrees and GORGEOUS today in Raleigh (hard to believe we had snow 3 days ago!!) This morning I dressed my daughter in what should have been a normal February outfit light weight long sleeve shirt and pants set. It even had little snow flakes on it. But when my house reached 78 degrees (I have TONS of windows and it heats up QUICK when my blinds are open!) I knew she needed a more appropriate spring outfit! I of course had to capture her first time in a Lilly dress! I am SO excited there are only 25 days until the ‘official’ start of spring! We had a mini two minute session in the front yard! It’s been a while since I posted a before and after so I thought I would share! And a good reminder that I still have lots of work to do after I snap a photo! I love how this one turned out!

Removed boo boo on baby’s nose

Removed flag in bushes at top

Made the colors warmer and brighter
